So.. I sanded my entire deck with some help of a couple friends. It took longer then we expected and we only got 1/4 of it stained.
It then rained HARD for the next 48 hours. It is now looking a little nicer (partly cloudy) but is supposed to rain till Thurs
Question : How long does the sanded wood need to dry before staining?

If it is oil based it should be 48 hours of sun before you hit it and atleast the same after. If not you will end up with spots all over it. Also, if you sanded too hard you might get shiny spots anyhow.

Give some detail of what you are using and the type of wood the deck is made of.

I agree somewhat with the last post. To really be helpful need to know more info on what your using. Is it a water based stain? If so the wait is less. If not, using oil based, it needs to be completely dry, the drier the better.

One other problem you may run into now is matching up previously stained section with the new. May show lap marks if you didn't stop on a complete board. Best way to go is to be able to complete deck in one day.
