Not sure if this is the right forum but I stained my deck a couple of years ago and I’ve noticed some blackish areas on some of the deck (see photo). I used a Behr stain (semi-transparent).

is a south facing deck and I noticed the areas this past fall. Would a power washer take these off or would I need to sand it down and reapply stain?

Looks like mildew, it should come off with a bleach/water solution. be sure to rinse well.

Thanks...I wasn’t certain. Strange since the deck is south facing and always gets sun.

bleach, water and a few drops detergent.


or get a ready made exterior 'cleaner'. any paint store or hardware store will have some.

Sun helps but doesn't guarantee no mildew. When I lived in fla I needed to wash my house every year, the north side needed washing twice a year.
