Hi everyone,

I am looking to rebuild my deck, the previous owners didnt know what they were doing. As you can see the deck is really boring. I am aslo looking to incoorperate the deck with the basement steps if possible. Any ideas? how large should i make the deck, currently its 11.5x11.5.

I would not block the basement steps at all
You want a clear shot out in front of the stiars to being things in & out
Is the green fence on the left the property line?
I would extend all the way over near the edge of the basement stairs
Make it 12' so that you won't waste any deck boards
Then come out maybe 12-16' ?

Or turn the deck boards perpindicular to the house & go to the edge of the stairs
Then use either 12' or 16' deck boards

Are you allowed to enlarge that deck if it is so close to the property line?
In many cases you can redeck but not enlarge

Yes the property line is the green fence on the left. I think i will extend the deck all the way over to the stairs and remove the iron railing on the left side.

I like this type of deck and feel that it could work, but am having trouble figuring out how to modify it to fit my space.

Whatever design you decide on, rip down that old, crappy deck and start over. Trying to reuse what is there will be a bigger headache and likely cause you more work than starting from scratch.

It's not very often that I come across an existing deck that I would reuse the framing of.

I certainly NEVER warranty an existing deck frame if I do reuse it.
