A friend wants me to put a deck on his front porch. The deck will be 12 by 6. He doesn't want to tear out the stoop. Any advise would be helpful. My thought was spacers between concrete and joists. Since I have to cut the joists above the stoop I want to be able to use the stoop as support. There is not even 6 inches between stoop and bottom of the door.

Tear out the stoop if you ask me.

It will take less time that working around it in my opinion.

Any deck or stoop needs that drop at the door opening or there going to have water getting in under the walls and threshold.
Make that deck free standing.

Will reevaluate the plan. Cost is an issue but I told him I don't want to mess up his house by doing it wrong. I am all for just ripping it out and making a freestanding deck at the proper height.

I'm in NJ. I left 4' high masonary stairs. I covered the landing with weather shield, then screwed in pt sleepers and used pt 5/4 decking. The landing was draining away from the foundation and the porch was roofed but I flashed the door as well as the ledger. The door and the windows can become problems from splash back rain.
