Call your local Land Use Office where they issue permits.
They will know if any changes have been made.
Permits are not expensive, but not having one can be extremely expensive.
This deck is 26 yrs old and I am just having to replace rotten posts. It is a free floating now. If I attach it to the house I can eliminate replacing some posts. This fun all started because we want to redue the deck with composite

Replace the posts, you can buy all kinds of trouble messing with a brick veneer.

Free standing is the way to go - bite the bullet and replace the posts.

Brick veneer is real brick with wood behind it, the drain plane between the house and the brick is what I would worry about.
If using composite flooring you may need to beef up the floor joist to 12" OC.
