Deck duilding
I am building a deck size 12 feet wide by 14 out off a patio door of a split entry house. My question is how far can I cantaliever over the cross beam which I am thinking of putting at 12 feet ?

Rule of thumb for cantilever is 1/4 of the main span. If your beam is planned at 12' out from the house and you're looking to extend the deck another 2', that is within the allowable cantilever.
