Dead Electrical outlet

Right before Christmas outlet went dead. Purchased new one at hardware, brought home, power off, installed, power back on, plugged in lamp. Nothing.
Is it possible to mess up an outlet install? I instaleld a new outlet in my garage in the summer, and it was fine.
What else could I check?

Turn off the breaker and find all the outlets that are now dead, start with the ones closest to the problem and check for lose connections. If wires are just stabbed in the back move them to the screws. no more that one wire to a screw.
