What do customers want from a painting company?
Is it a good price, or an immaculate paint job?
Let's pretend that you cannot have both, you have to pick cost or quality.

I understand that to be a successful painting company, you need to find a healthy medium between the two. Price, product, and customer service will always be the building blocks to a brick and mortar business.

What is it that makes you call that painting company?

What is it that helps you choose your painting contractor?

What is it that makes you call that company back in the future?

Well, Repairsandpaint, I agree with Toolseeker. Customers also want someone who knows what the He** they are doing. I don't know if you're a spammer or not, but judging from your first few posts on here, your advice is sketchy at best, so I doubt I would hire YOU based on your lack of knowledge. You advised to use TWO coats of KILZ on nicotine stained walls which isn't going to save anyone money. Now they have to pay their painter for an extra coat of primer that is totally unnecessary. Any painter worth their "salt" is going to use BIN in that situation and be done with it.

Oh, and since you seem to be "phishing" for customers on here, you better get a link to your painting website that is actually up and running.

What everyone is looking for is the best value for their money.

That means high quality and a low price.

And, the most likely place to find that is in family run businesses. That's because when someone is working for themselves, they'll give more and take less because they figure that's the best way to make their business grow... by keeping each customer happy so that they'll at least get some good word of mouth advertising in exchange.

And, even though you may not like it, that's the truth.

I choose nearly all contractors based on word of of mouth or personal recommendations . That gets them in the door. Second is how professional do you act. Do you keep appointments, call me back, etc. Do you maintain a good professional appearance ?. Is your quote written, thorough and complete including your license number , insurance , subcontractor terms if any, change orders and allowances, and permit and inspection procedures if required by local authorities Can you provide recent references I can contact?

Your quote should include all materials that will be use (paint etc. ), application type (spray, roll, brush) , start time , end time, daily working hours, contingency for weather, prep required , lead abatement if required, trash and waste removal and in the case of larger projects who will be doing the work and what is the level of supervision.

Whith any contractor once you are done, I should not see any evidence other than your finished product that where here. During the project I expect the work space and my property to be left neat and safe at the end of each work day.

It goes without saying I expect a contractor to know what they are doing . I would expect a painter would have worked for sometime with an experienced group before stepping out in their own

Based on all that I can determine if your quote is fair and I can reasonably compare it against other quotes.

No use pretending. Customers want the best job for the least amount of money from any trade/contractor.

You have to talk to your customers, and find out what their individual expectation is. And then provide a quality commensurate with the price they are willing to pay for.
