My wife and I just purchased our first home and it is in desperate need of curb appeal. Any suggestions? We are not married to the boxwood hedges and would love to replace them.

We also thought about putting a small entryway deck /stairs under the front door the would extend to the first boxwood (we would remove it) under the small window.

Please help with your suggestions.

First thing I would do is get rid of those silly looking gutter down spouts.

Only having that one off centered window in what looks like the garage throws off the balace of the wall.

Shutters look to narrow.

The other homes are new construction. Lots of landscaping and nice yards.

Personally leave as is. Too much landscaping, you end up sinking too much time & money into it every year.

As they say, no need to be like the Joneses.

I always suggest live it for a while.
Start from the top and work your way down on the outside checking the shingles, siding, drainage, gutters, condition of flashing.
Condition of water heater, HVAC.
Then move inside making sure there's the right amount of insulation, proper venting in the roof, leak free windows, insulation under the floors.
All of these things are easy DIY low cost items that will start saving you money from day one.
Often times all the money is spent on fofo things with no money left to fix the more important stuff.

Start small. Don't make a lot of big changes right away. I think you need to add some color. If it were me, I'd rip out that plant. Paint the door and maybe even shutters. I like boxwoods (I have several), but I don't like the squared off look. I'd probably try to let them round out. I'd consider making a flower bed along the side of the garage. I'd put a few knockout roses. They are heavily flowering, but low maintenance. That will help add some color.

I totally agree with what Joe is saying....what you like today will most likely change tomorrow....

Though...getting rid of those stupid rain gutter down spouts would be a great first start.

You need to decide how much you enjoy yard work.....unlike other projects....yard work is a 'regularly scheduled task'.....

Regarding your yard...I would get rid of those bushes by the front door....and put something along the garage wall....that is just too much bare wall. And if you really like bushes....lining the driveway with a hedge would do well to separate the drive from the yard.....

Oh...and.....add removing that asphalt drive and putting in a concrete one....but plan that for a year or two from now....

Otherwise...live in it...fix the broken stuff...

And remember...don't do stuff because you think it will improve re-sale...do it because you want to enjoy it....

BTW....I think that is a pretty nice looking home....
