The soil in mmy garden tends to get a crust over it and prevents the water from sinking in. The crust is whitish in color and gets about an eighth inch thick. Any idea of a cause and is there a way to amend the soil to prevent it.?

keep adding compost you really cant put too much in a little builders sand and gypsum will help alot

Where do you live? My guess, which could be incorrect, is out west.
