Hey there y'all,

I have been through so many forums, talked to DIYers, pump hotlines, you name it, but I can't get an answer to this question. There are a couple of threads here that start out the same way, but never land up answering the question.


Bought a place where the last chap would've had the setup I'm looking for, but he took the pump with him which is where's I'm stuck.

And yes, before it comes up, I have permission to use the creek for this purpose.

It goes like this:

Creek to shed with pump housing:
Run: 150 ft
Rise: about 10 ft

Intake hose (already run the 150 ft) is 1" ID ABS with screened fitting on the end (no foot /check valve).

Output is a plain old 3/4" garden hose - also about 150 ft. He's got it buried in the lawn over to where the veggie gardens are, and a pond that he used to top up now and again (so I'm told).

The housing is in no way big enough to have held a pump and a tank, so best that I can figure is that it just pumped water through.

Any ideas on what pump I need to get this set-up going again? I got lots of suggestions for hooking it up to a fancy sprinkler system but all I want to do is hook it up to the plain old garden hose.

He may have had something like this, but it still needs a check valve at the bottom end.

yep, foot valve or you lose your prime everytime. Intake hose must be ridged. Where are you mate?

A centrifugal pump like shown will handle the lift but you might have problems because of the intake length. It will create friction - a larger diameter intake might help. As mentioned, you will need a foot valve to maintain prime. Another problem may be the distance of your discharge with that suggested type of pump it's only advertised for pumping 25' and I don't know if you will be able to find any that will pump 150'. In either case, you will want a pressure tank.

mj12 - the fella already has the hose laid out - smooth though, not ridged. Do you think I oughta replace it?

Other than drainage tubing, not sure I've seen ridged (other than what you can buy for ponds - $$$)

25ft is the max vertical lift (suction) of that pump, not the horizontal distance it can pump.

i would use the piping that is there for now. That pump I posted has the pressure tank built in.
