We recently purchased a foreclosure and have just completed a major renovation on the majority of the house, During so, i removed the old tile in the bathroom, as well as the fiber glass shower, toilet, and cabinets / sink. I put down the new tile and hired out a new tile shower and the cabinet work and plumbing for the toilet and faucets. Shortly after we where down, we noticed a strong gas odor coming from the room.
1st thought - seal around the toilet. Solution - our plumber added a second ring and sealed the base. Still the odor remained.
2nd thought - pea trap dried out. Solution - we ran water down every drain in our house, single level home, for a week, tried to water them 5 to 8 times a day. Still the odor remained.
3rd thought - leaking exhaust from pipe in wall. Solution - our plumbers had a smoke test done. We saw the smoke coming from the exhaust fans from the roof but never saw any smoke in the bathroom. Still the odor remains
4th thought - dead animal. Solution - vigorous search of the attic turned up nothing. I also put some traps out up there and have yet to catch anything. the odor still remains.
t this point my plumber is even saying this is the first time he couldn't find the source. I desperately need some help / ideas! We are pregnant with our first child and living on the other side if the our house until we get this fixed; she's worried what effect the gas might have on our unborn baby!
