Redoing the garage at the moment (house built in '73); everything but paint and epoxy floors are done. In inspecting the concrete, I found some spots chip away pretty easy and there's a sizable crack in one of the 4" verticals perpendicular to the actual slab. I was going to chip away as much of the crumbing concrete as possible to leave only good, strong concrete, then clean and paint it with the floors. As for the crack, i was going to open it up/bevel and fill it, then paint it.

I am only going to be in this house another couple years so i wasn't going to have someone come out to fill/shape (top coat?) the wearing concrete as this isn't a $3,000 problem/value add to me. Anyone see something here that requires more than I plan to do?

It looks like its a load bearing section of foundation(but maybe not) so i wouldnt go to crazy with chipping the old stuff out. Make sure to use some concrete bonding agent when you patch it since it is a small area to fill and could come out.
