Hi,
I recently saw a crack in one of bedroom ceiling. There is no leak though. I have a flat roof and there is no water puddle or crack on the roof.

I was wondering what could be causing the crack in the bedroom ceiling? Also any thing I should do till I get a profession contractor look at it?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Anup

Cracks are not always caused by leaks. Is this just a hairline crack or a pretty good sized crack? Is it straight, like maybe a seam? Is the ceiling plaster or drywall?

Thanks Ron and ToolSeeker. Crack is straight and it is not a hairline crack. My ceiling is drywall ceiling.

The flat roof is bitument/tar. There is some puddling on the roof but not in the area where there is the crack.

I am also attaching a photo of the crack.

Thanks,
Anup

Should be pretty obvious if its a seam issue. Investigate a little further with a flat tip screwdriver. If you notice tape and drywall screws that's probably the seam where the two pieces meet.

If it is in fact a seam you can redo it. Easy fix if you have finishing drywall skills.

Of course you could always just patch it with some caulk and repaint it. Up to you.

If it's not a seam issue, is there an attic above this room to verify nothing structurally failed?
