I'm installing Simpson PB44Z's into concrete tomorrow and I'm wondering if it matters whether the plate of the connector is perpendicular or parallel to the beam.

Seems like it shouldn't matter, but I ask because if perpendicular is ok, I can use these centered notches in the connector to center with a string. Set parallel and I'd have to mark the center point. Perhaps that's what these notches are there for?

We're pouring tomorrow morning so I'd love answers tonight =)

Does not matter, but I put them so they will show the least. (so the opening is facing to the outside)

The connector performs no lateral reinforcement role in the structure, if it is you are in big trouble, it's there to keep your deck attached to the ground so it doesn't matter.
