At this corner, I will have tile the entire wall on the tubside with modified thinset, and half tile / half drywall on the other side. How do I install the cornerbead? Do I use mud on the backer board?

Yes, bed the corner bead in it, and finish the tile side only with it. (Use regular joint compound on the other side) Keep in mind that you cant sand durabond so apply it neat and smooth. Durabond is water resistant. You just need to to be smooth enough for your tile. Be sure you check the corner bead with a straight edge when you mud it on. (A 78" or 96" level works well)
