Before I started building my house, I considered stockpiling Romex, since I knew I would need a bunch of it. As it turned out, I bought it as I needed it, and in every case, paid less than when I was thinking about stocking up. If you buy a bunch of copper, what are you going to do with it if prices continue downward?

If that's not what you're asking, well, I plumbed our new house with PEX, and am a big fan of it. People say copper is 'forever', but I had to replace several fittings on our FL house over the years. They simply wore out at the elbows. Cheap fittings? Abrasive water? I don't know, but the plumbing in that house was less than 30 years old.

Thanks for that further monkey wrench. I was about a step away from pex.
I'm not stocking up. I don't run a business but do want to save $3-400? It shocked me last time I looked, a 250' roll of 12-2 romex was way over $100, and I just bought some for around 50. I may have to rewire the entire house, I'll see what the permit office says. But planning to have about 2000' for 2000' square house. I probably will need more since I don't plan to break walls if I have to rewire. Present is 14-2 bx everywhere.
Copper tube is more for heating, but again if it is half price now, I think I can recoup the cost on craiglist if I end up with a furnace.
What's been the price of pex, and how is it compare now? Thanks in advance.

Copper fluctuates because of the cost to mine it, process and shipping costs from overseas.

There is no need to warehouse a bunch of materials that you may never use or need.

I only keep a small amount of Lumber on hand for repairs or projects.

I also keep some Romex on hand, majority are scraps up to 10', so that I have it for something, instead of having to run down to the local Ace Hardware in an emergency.

Just buy when you need, because you will spend leas and stay off of the radar for the state you live in, if they track those materials that are scraped.
