I’m out of ice cream so making cookies today. No chocolate chips in the pantry. Tired of oatmeal. That leaves peanut butter or old fashion sugar cookies. Or, molasses cookies. Those sound good. My aunt always made Snickerdoodle cookies.

Or,

Cut-out sugar cookies. I have food color and powder sugar to decorate. These are a delicate flavor and will be a surprise for daughter since I only make them at xmas. I’m sure I have a bunny mold somewhere so will do an Easter theme.

We are on the same page. Picked up Chocolate chips and raisins yesterday so I can feed my boredom. Maine's Governor just declared a travel ban except for selected necessities for all of April. When I got home from the store it appears someone snuck 2 containers of ice cream into my cart. Since I probably could not return them I guess I'll have to just eat them, very slowly. At least they are flavors I like.

I'm going for CC and raisin oatmeal cookies. Turns out my mothers old family receipt is very similar to Quaker's. Mom used Crisco and Quaker used butter. I have both but prefer butter. If I survive the cookies I'll net you know how they are.

Also, Ice cream is good :).

My wife makes cookie dough and shapes it for baking. Then she puts it in containers in the fridge. Every night she bakes a few. I get a few hot fresh cookies and not an opportunity to eat them all in one night.

My mom always had to make double batches so everyone could feast on the dough and she would still have enough to cook. Making cookies was always a joy and frustration for her. They were so good they never lasted. Occasionally she would make several batches and put a bunch in those metal cookie tins and freeze them. Slowed the frenzy for awhile.

Good memories.

My aunts always had cookies in the freezer and when visiting took a little container of cookies.

Thomas, good idea.

Bud, what flavor of ice cream jumped into your cart? Since this started I ate a carton of Carmel, plain chocolate and the last was best, Mayfield Brown Cow Delight. It had thick yummy fudge swirled in the middle.

My girlfriend, that was here, used butter flavored Crisco for her CC cookies. When I can randomly shop again I’ll try some.

I thought she was at work when I said stop for cookies. No she wasn’t sn stopped 5 minutes later!

I try not to keep that stuff in the house. :wink2:
But, for a real craving for cookies, which, thank goodness is rare, I can always make Shortbread.

An easy recipe is flour, then half that volume in butter, and half that volume in sugar & a small amt salt. Mix, form a circle and bake at 350 deg. Traditionally, the edges are marked with a fork.

The recipe is different than that of a cake which would have flour, sugar and butter in that order.

And don't frost with Sweetened Condensed Milk that has been heated on the stove to a rich thickness, unless you want to gain 20 lbs like I did in Scotland at 19.

Nik, I love shortbread! You’d think I’d have a family recipe but no. I ‘ll try yours next time I bake. When I was 20 an married my husbands old girlfriend’s mom would drop off shortbread for him. It was the best. But I was too mad to ever ask her for her recipe.
