I'll admit that I am a fan of home improvement shows on television. Recently I had heard one of the hosts say that they replaced the outdoor unit on their furnace with a heat pump. I never considered that possibility before, but is it just that simple.....replacing the outside unit?

Probably a un-reality - reality show.

No, have to evaluate indoor and outdoor to determine compatibility-some may be capable...some not :) Capable ones....just the OD unit. (but not very likely in this day and age.

If the indoor coil is a newer coil it is. Along with adding a dual fuel control, or getting a dual fuel thermostat.

Its also possible that that person didn't realize that their indoor coil was changed.
