Hello Everyone! . Ive got a contractor coming to do some work on Friday and I want to write up a contract for us to sign. What are some things I need to have in it? I've never done anything like this and I want my bases covered. The work should be done in 5 hours or so. The work I'm having done:

Window Installation for egress access :

Take siding down from roof to base of window
Cut existing exterior wall to make room for window
Frame window in
Make waterproof
Cut and reinstall existing siding.

He quoted me $550 for the job. I am providing the window. Thanks for your help!

Sure would save us a lot of time if all the customers would write up the contracts for us, now if we could get them to also do all the quotes, pick up materials and have all the demo done before we get there.

5 hrs to strip siding, remove the old window, reframe for the new window. install the window.. seal it then put the siding back up.. .good luck with that.. i do this sort of the thing all the time, 2 experienced carpters can do 3 in a day working together... if its a small window maybe. but chances are he`ll have to mess around with some of the existing framing putting a new header in . possibly replace rotten framing and sheathing from possible leaks.. etc..

Take pictures----how in the BLANK is he going to get all that done in one day is a mystery---

Something sounds wrong----is he also doing the drywall repair?

Does that price include the framing/Tyvek /tar paper/window seal/and other supplies?
This fellow sound like a real work horse-----

This ^^^ is the part that concerns me.

If its a load bearing wall then an appropriately sized header needs to be installed.

Although not impossible you got to be pretty good to do it without disturbing the finish on the inside and certainly will have to open up the framing on the outside more than just cutting a hole in the wall.

Cutting a new hole in the wall (load bearing or not) will almost certainly require a permit and inspection.

What about the interior finish?

This isn't a job that takes days to complete if the guy's any good but five hours is beond unrealistic.

Sorry for the lack of details. This window is going in an unfinished attic. There is complete access to where the wall is going from the inside. He will be just taking the siding down, cutting the existing studs and sheathing, framing the window, then putting the siding back on. Its a super simple project that I don't feel comfortable with. This is on the second story of the house. There is a good chance he will bring a contract with him. If he doesn't I don't let him start any work until its on paper. I just wanted to be prepared in case I need to write one up. He is an actual contractor. He has done work for my builder. I have checked references and such.
