Hey Folks,
I'm doing a bathroom total gut and remodel and found that for a period of time there was a leak at the wax seal and 4" cast flange and pipe cast in concrete below is beyond use or repair. As bathroom is demoed, access to where it joins at a wye in crawl space is easy.
My initial plan was to demo out all the concrete and cast iron back to the wye at the hub. (see attached photo circled in red) I was considering removing the 4" cast, and use a donut reducer to 3" and bring the 3" back to new PVC flange and re-pour concrete.
I keep reading a lot about hub, versus no-hub connections, and really can't decide if it's better to remove pipe from hub, use donut reducer, or alternatively use a chain cutter to break the 4" cast lead in pipe to the hub, and use a no-hub, then transition to the 3" further up?
The donuts seem to be generically called "furnco" fittings, from what I can gather. (see attached photo) As the entire wye in crawlspace sits on grade in crawls space, I don't think support is a factor.
Anyway, hope to hear the pro's and con's to each option, as I'll go with the better alternative as when bathroom is closed back up crawl space access would not be as easy.
Thanks all !!
