So i have to replace the condenser fan motor, it wont spin freely and it looks like the bearings are worn out. The old motor says it is a 1/4hp with 2.2 FLA(full load amps), 208/230V, PH1. It does not say what the rpm's are and neither does the fan blade. So i found on Grainger two motors that i think might work: DAYTON Fan Motor, PSC, 1/3 HP, 1075, 208-230v, 48YZ - FLA 2.5-2.8 or DAYTON Fan Motor, PSC, 1/4 HP, 1075, 208-230v, 48YZ - FLA 1.7-1.9. Can i assume that the 1075 rpm's on these will be sufficient? And does it matter if i go higher or lower FLA? I am planning on replacing the capacitor at the same time. It is a dual capacitor so i am guessing i would match up the uf for the compressor (from the old capacitor) and the uf needed on the new motor and get one that would match that combo; and also with the same 440VAC and 50/60Hz as the old one? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Post your condenser make, model and serial number and I'll call the manufacturer in the morning.

I'm in Houston as well, btw.

The front of the unit says Fedders and the only sticker on it says this:

Try this in the meantime, look on the motor itself and see if the data plate/sticker has any visible information. If so, you just get the exact replacement motor.

Rpms, voltage, direction (new motor may be bi-directional and would be okay), frame size (bolt pattern, if you will) and cap size should all be on that plate.

I'm having a hard time locating a Fedder's dealer. Fedders themselves went under and has been resurrected as Airwell Fedders but apparently have no dealers here.

I have checked the motor and there is definitly nothing on it but a random string of numbers. There is a sticker that probably had something on it at one time but it is all cracked and washed out, you cant even see a hint of any writing. I have googled the string of numbers with no results so i dont think they would help. But i can provide them when i get home if you think they would be usefull.

What sucks is you have to use the exact rpm and hp or you'll simply burn up the new motor.

I'll keep trying but I'm not sure what I'll be able to come up with.

post those numbers from the motor itself. Apparently, and I'm on the phone with Johnson A/C supply, they can not tell the motor by the model of the condenser. This is a first for me but he's saying that since it's old...

post those numbers.

National Coil bought out Airwell Fedders but has no information breakdown on these older C class condensers, simply too old. They gave me the phone number to Airwell Fedders who still has their own factory/manufacturing plant. I'm on hold right now but it's not looking good thus far.

Might be a sign from above to just buy you a new condenser or a complete system.

Not even National Coil or Airwell Fedders had that. Where'd you find it?
one of those websites that has a bunch of downloadable service manuals and spec sheets. i just googled the condenser and found it after a little digging around. it's amazing what you can find on the internet nowadays. you can even find a lot of the older manuals that have been scanned into a PDF format and uploaded.

Sorry, didnt have internet over the weekend. Thanks Nate, i cant believe you found it. I had totally given up on finding the original specs on this thing. So would there be anything wrong with going for this motor (DAYTON Fan Motor, PSC, 1/4 HP, 1075, FLA 1.7-1.9) with the lower amps if it has the needed HP and RPMs? Seems like it would just be more efficient to me since it draws less amps.

Make sure you get the correct frame size, bolt pattern. It could be four bolts and they can be spread out too far or in too much. On the motor itself it would state something like 48Y, frame size.
