I have two Goodman A/C units at my house. I've noticed one of the units running much more than the other and the side of the house with the unit running longer seems to take much longer to cool. I went out to look at the condensors and I notice that the insulation has worn from the approx. 1-inch line running from the condensor to the house. The line is also sweating from condensation. The insulation for the line on the other unit is in tact and there does not appear to be any condensation along that line. Is the missing insulation enough to cause the condensation and less-efficient cooling?

not really but it is doing what the insulation limits all along the line.the direct sun on the suction line copper back to the condenser would add a load to the freon and make the system run longer to make setpoint.swetting is normal and a good place to grab when the unit is running and feel that cold there and back in the home coming out of the air handler.

Thanks. The line is cold and the air coming out of vent furthest from the airhandler is cold. Can I purchase and replace the insulation at a local hardware store or should I have it serviced.

......more concerned with having a tech check the charges in those systems as most of the calls i go on aren't adjusted right. a system with real cold and heavy sweating is more than likely overcharged , dirty filter , low air flow & not giving your full efficiency , as needed. your comp'r. may be bringing back liquid refrigerant back that will dilute your oil and cause damage or early death to it. The comp'r can only pump a vapor and liquid mixed in will ruin the valves (recip) or cause the pistons to break. too low a charge will leave part of your cooling coil inoperative & not giving all of your cooling. insulate the line & call a pro for a tune up , protect and extend the life of those compressors..........Jack:)

I did insulate the line. The tech came out today and said everything with the compressor checked OK. That's a good thing since it's supposed to hit 116 F this weekend.
