I have 3 cylinder columns supporting my porch/roof in front of my house, not sure if they all extend down to my foundation. I am looking to box in them in. 2 of the columns sit in my concrete driveway. Problem is the concrete moves up and down with the changing weather. I'm having a new driveway poured, and was told if the concrete immediately around the column is poured down to my foundation (as a seperate piece), that piece of concrete would not move. Is that necessary, or is there another approach? Thanks.

Foundations, or things sitting on foundations do not move since they are below the frost line. Sidewalks, driveways, etc., do. They move up/down with seasonal changes. The two should not be connected. There should be something to isolate the two so the moveable will move. The posts should be on a foundation.
