concrete capstone for limestone wall

3171 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Ron6519
is it possible to form concrete capstones for a limestone full veneer fall on house?

Can I add color to the concrete to match the limestone?

I attached photos not good ones..Ill add better ones tomorrow night

I brought the wall up to the existing cedar siding..so to add the capstone I would have to cut the cedar siding to fit in the capstone..is that more problems?

You'll need to flash under the siding and over the capstone so plan for that detail.
You can use any stone you want to cap the veneer. Are you making the capstone in a form or buying it? You can stain store bought concrete or you can add coloring to the home made variety.
You should get a closer match with the home made, through trial and error, unless the stone yard has a close match on hand.
Don't know how long the color stays in a stained material.

was thinking of using forms..make it myself..just spend 2 days 30 feet up on scaffolding building box for chandiler lift and then playing with the electric wires..I am getting used to the diy stuff! I will attach photos soon of that project..

buying limestone capstones cost too much and with the color mixes you can buy for concrete, I am leaning that direction

Yes, flashing is a must. to end the stone veneer as it is I used caulking to seal between stone and cedar siding..I do have 15lb tar paper behind as vapor barrier.

Once capstones made and in place what do you recommend for seal between cedar siding and capstone? Some of the caulking as pulled loose over the winter..like I said Im new at this game!

Any advice is great!

The flashing keeps the water out. Any water that gets in would work it's way down and out the weep holes at the base.
