In the process of installing a new deck and evaluating the pros & cons of wood & composite decking materials. The new deck will be on a southern exposure with full sun. There appears to be many composte deck manufacturers out there. Are some better than others? Initial research indicates all composite decking is not as low maintenance as one would initially think. Mold, staining & fading tend to be a significant problem, requiring washing several times a year. Does anyone have any feedback/ recommendations??

Being in full exposure of the sun you will likely have a fading issue but not have to worry about mold. To avoid any of these issues you may want to consider a PVC decking rather than composite. PVC decking generally does not stain or fade. I hear great things about CorrectDeck. As for composites I would recommend TimberTech.

If your budget allows, IPE is a great choice if you do not mind some occasional maintenance.

Since you already have decided on a higher budget for the composite decking, why not go with a SA hardwood like ipe or mahogany? The price will be comparable if you are doing the work and it will look much nicer and hold up better than any composite decking. Added is the fact that there is very low maintenance.
