Ok, we have spent the past four months painting the interior of our new home and have completed everything inside besides a bathroom and one hall way and now that the weather is warming up it is time to paint the exterior of the home and we need ideas.

Currently the house is a bright yellow (a lot of the interior was a similar yellow when we bought it, the previous owner must have REALLY liked yellow) anyways, its got to go!

It is a Cape style built on a lake in the late 30's, the house has a new roof on it and its black shingles which are visible from the front of the house. looking at the front of the house it has a door in the middle with a set of concrete stairs (this will be going eventually for a small deck style porch), a big picture window to the left (which gives us a great view of the lake!) and a standard sized window to the right, evenly spaced on the roof are two dormer type windows (don't know the right term) so basically your typical cape.

The house to our left is a pale yellow and the one to the right is beige, We want to stay away from those two colors.

We have a few ideas but the wife and I are not connecting on a color that we both agree on so I thought I would ask here and see what you all come up with.

1) the house is on the small side from the outside so we were looking at a lighter to medium shade color.

2) Red will not work.

3) is there a color or style that a cape should have that looks better than any other?

4) please include trim colors with suggestions.

5) Thanks for any responses! this has been driving us both insane and we have to get it done the yellow must go!

Drive around the area and look at color combinations on houses. You can also go to paint manufacturers websites. Benjamin Moore has a place to put colors in a room so you can see how they look. Some will have exteriors you can throw colors on to see how they look.
I don't know why you would be asking this on the internet. Even with posted pictures it's purely subjective to the people who live in the house.
Try the above suggestions.

Thanks for the response :thumbsup: the first part at least :wink: I asked because I thought this was a forum and forums are usually meant for people to ask questions and chit chat, soooo with that said, you have the reason that I "asked on the internet".

We ended up going with a color called Artichoke from Sherwin Williams, with a sand stone trim color.
