I wondering if I need a cold air return in my basement. I have 3 bedrooms upstairs two of them have returns in them and one in the living room, I am adding another return to the 3rd bedroom tonight when I get home. I have a ranch style 1475 sq ft home with full basement, with 3 more bedrooms down stairs it's about a 75 % finished basement . The people that lived in the house before me took the 4 bedroom's upstairs and made 1 large master bedroom and left the other two alone. They didn't add a cold air return in my room so I am adding it tonight, just wondering if I need one down stairs or not ???? 3 ton 13 seer unit

Typically, just blowing conditioned air into a room (hot or cold) is not an efficient means of heating/cooling the room. You also need a path for the air already in the room to leave. If you want to heat and cool effectively, you need returns.


...but I'm not an HVAC pro.

You can't just keep on cutting in returns left or right. I would get someone to balance or at least check out your duct work before you add another return.

I am removing the end cap on the floor joist and adding another 10 ft that's it
