Hello!
Sorry if this isn’t the right place to make this post. I’m building a bedroom closet in my new place and have been trying to figure out what this is called that’s in my current closet at my old place (see photo).

The left photo is inside the closet. You can see there’s a ledge to hang clothes hangers. The right photo is the front. I like how it looks compared to a rod but cannot figure out what this is called to buy it. Does anyone know?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum.

I’m doubtful that you’ll have success purchasing something comparable in North America. It may be homemade, or it may be something that was intended for something else and was repurposed for use in the closet. It’s an interesting design that removes the sag inherent in many closet rods, although it seems a bit awkward to use. Is a magnet attracted to it? The reverse side photo looks a lot like steel.

They're not homemade. I've seen them before in a few apartments that hadn't been remodeled since the '70s. Unfortunately, I never knew what they were called. They may not be made anymore, though. As with many things that were efficient, cheap and functional, they came to be associated with cheap construction, and so fell out of favor.

I like Galvanized Steel Pipe instead of regular closet rod, I have found it to sag very little over 6', It's been in my home for 43 yrs.
My wife's side challenges the rod the most, still a hardly noticible sag.
