We don't have any lights in our closets.....future project
Wife bought some small LED battery operated lights
I have some MR16 LED lights that I may use - they run off 12v
I have 3 on a sensor in the kitchen as a test - pretty bright
I also set 5 up in the main room...bright but I didn't like the look

I have seen rope light used around the door frame
I think we will end up with a mixture of solutions
I might install some small flourescent tube fixtures

Our ~9x9 walk in I have installed an overhead light with a switch

LED's in main room - before ceiling was painted

There are some quite specific code requirements relating to lights in closets -- the kinds of fixtures permitted and the clearance you must have between the fixture and any shelves. Check those out before you make too many decisions.

As far as one person did posted the NEC code related to the cloth closet that is very spefic rules we have to follow it.

The small 26 inch closet normally most case I don't bother put in a luminaire in there at all unless the customer request it then it will be mounted right above the door { that is the only safest spot it can be mounted in small closets }

Typically for walk in closet it will be a tossed up for surface mounted flourscent luminaire or recessed hardwired flourscent { note: not a screw in CFL type btw } if you want indenscent luminaire it must be complety enclosed type { that go for both surfaced and recessed luminaires (see above comment realted to the codes )}

For setting a switch for closet you can have a switch outside of the door or get a motion sensor switch next to surfaced mounted flourscent luminaire.

As far for LED I don't have much experince with them yet but sooner or later one way or other I will run into it anyway.

Merci,Marc
