i was wondering if a closet depth of 22.5" is pushing it too shallow. assuming a door would not be encroaching on that depth as i was planning to just have a curtain installed above it on the outside (drywall above the closet opening).

thanks

24" inside is our standard but things will fit in 22.5" as long as they are not bulky like winter coats and the like.
If you put your curtain at across the outside of the closet instead of say under the top of the opening you can gain the depth of the wall. In case of a 2x4 wall with drywall on both sides that is 4.5inches.

If you build the closet with 2x4 on the flat so your wall is 1.5" instead of 3.5" you can gain 2" in depth.

Let us know what you are doing and possibly some pics so we can give you the best advice.

24 is standard, but 22.5 is fine. You could also install a regular 1 3/8" door and still gain 3 1/8" or a bifold and gain 3 3/8"
