Hello,

We recently purchased an old home that installed carpet over some hardwood floors in the living room. We removed the carpet, staples, and tack strips so far.

Is there an easy/good way to treat the small holes left by the staples and tack strips?

What is usually done to clean/treat the wood after doing something like removing the carpet? We currently have no furniture in the house, so we want to do all of the messy cleaning while we can do it easily.

Thank you for your help/advice!

Cheers,

B

You probably want to vacuum very well, then get someone in to screen the floor and put on a coat or two of finish.

You could also rent one of those diy floor sanders which have 3 spinning heads. This simply allows you to rough up the floor a bit, then you can put on a coat of finish. You rough up a bit between coats as well. I would think 2 coats would fill all the small holes left by staples.
