Hi all-
Looking for some advice on my parqueet floor I just uncovered. Its in great shape except for white paint trails/spots all over (they didn't paint the floor, they just dripped paint all over).
I've tried a variety of approaches (rubbing alcohol, goo off, razor) and it often gets the paint off, but almost always with the top coat of what i assume is polyurethane. It basically looks like a thin clear plastic film crumbling when you scrape at the edges.
If I remove this coating in spots to get the paint off will I am able to recoat or do something else to restore the luster without problems?

You have to attach pics! We all love to see pics! I would clean all the paint spots off as your doing then scuff the floor witha random orbital sander. then apply a couple fresh coats of Poly

You may well have oil based paint or primer adhered to oil-based varnish on the parquet. If that was latex they so casually spilled on the wood floor they planned to cover it would still scrape up relatively easily with plastic scrapers or certainly with the razor-if it has dried that hard and mechanical scraping wont separate it without pulling up the old finish then you are dealing with sanding and scraping not one but two old finishes either of which could contain materials which you neither wants to breathe as dust nor spread throughout your house. This may be one of those times to decide if the folks who covered the floor were right or if you have facts enough to do the job safely. If you absolutely love the way the floor could look consider at least having a seasoned pro identify what you've got and what it will take to bring it back. good luck
