I am putting up backer board for the tile around my tub and it seems I can't keep the edges from chipping and cracking. A big chunk came out of this piece, I wedged it back in, is that going to be ok if I just thinset it and cover it with tape?

I plan to use redguard as my waterproofing over this then ceramic tile.
