Does anyone know with changing a back flow preventer, do you have to use the same make and model or can it be the same model and different brand?

Long as it's the same size and specifications of the one you are replacing the brand doesn't matter.

What does this backflow preventer go to? Sprinkler, municipal water, sump pump, etc.?
