Hi all - I have a basic controller to use with my inground sprinkler system but am looking to change it to a smart controller. Is this a basic replacement that is easy to do, and if so, any recommendations for a controller that can be used with an iPhone? Here’s what I have now. Thanks!

Yes, replacing controller is very easy.
Typically you will have a terminal strip on the controller to connect to the valves. Cable will have one common wire and then one wire for each solenoid. Label the wires with tape to identify each zone before you disconnect them. (Only the common wire is critical that you move it from the old common to the new common, but the zones are likely numbered in a nice intuitive clockwise pattern right now).

Can't help you on a recommendation, I don't find it to difficult to walk over and push the button.
