I have a pull type switch which has 3 wires. Black wire is labeled 2, Yellow wire labeled 1 and blue wire labeled 1. It controls 8 candle lights and one main light. It seems to either control each set of lights or the other or all on. How do you connect them up. Which ones are hot and or common ground?

I suspect that is a multi-function switch. The first pull light on set a lights, the second pull light the other, and possibly a third pull lights all.. The black would be the hot feed into the switch.
