I bought a home with central vacuum it was unplugged and all the accessories are stowed. But I hooked it up the suction of the hose seems adequate at least from the garage.. it does seem to make the garage warm really quick and the motor may seem a little tired.

I may need a new powerhead though and they cost about $200 for a new kit with new hoses etc on ebay. I am not sure should I buy a dyson or continue to use the central vacuum system?

I am thinking the central vac is quieter and the dust actually exit the room, as far as suction I am not sure maybe about the same.

Tough decision......

All the people I know with a central vac system like it....the compare draging the cords around to about par to the power cord....but the system is quieter and you can get into tight spaces easier....and the bag is larger so it does not need changing as often.

Downside...some do not work as well as a portable vacuum....and some wife's complain that it's a PIA to change the bag (and in the same breath you hear a comment about b!tching about cleaning out a regular vac)

If you go with a regualr vacuum, forget about the Dyson.....way overpriced and there are several vacuums which do a better job. Both Oreck and the Shark are superior. I co-own a cleaning business and those are the primary vacuums.

Electric or Air powered beater brush?


If you get it right, there's nothing that'll work as well as a central vacuum system.

I agree with Missouri Bound, Dyson vacuums are way overpriced for what you get. I have one stowed away in the guest bedroom closet right now.... Our old house was mainly hardwood flooring throughout, we had one(1) carpeted bedroom and two (2) tiled baths, and it had a central vacuum, and I loved, loved, loved it. Our current home has hardwood flooring thought, except in the baths which has ceramic tile.. And sadly we don't have a central vacuum here. (Maybe one day! I've just yet to convince my husband just how much I need it..) Hence the purchase of the Dyson. Which turn out to be a very expensive mistake.. It just didn't have the suction they claimed, nor that I was used to with the central vac, it was heavy which made it hard to maneuver around. After about 6 months, I finally broke down and bought another vacuum. This time I went to Sears and bought a Kenmore bagless canister vacuum. It has great suction, easy to use, light and no mess easy to empty canister! It's everything the Dyson it's not... Not to mention it was about $400 cheaper..
