Hi

I had a contractor raise my paver walkway when redoing the asphalt driveway. They were supposed to "put cement around the edge of paver walkway" which they never did.
Can some one please point me on "how to cement the edge" as DIY?
Please see picture of walkway below. Thanks!

IF i were you, i'd leave it alone,,, any cement you put there will crack if not jointed correctly,,, since you didn't put your 'where' in the space where the forum asked you do,,, therefore no responder would have any idea where YOUR where is located so you'll not likely get relevant posts

I think you were referring to my "location". I just populated that field under my profile. :)
Anyways I couldn't sit around and leave it that way. So I got a couple of bags of fast dry concrete and used that to edge about 3" out from pavers. Hopefully that will keep everything in place.
I put ornamental rocks or just mulch over it.
Thanks!

It is for mainly locking them in. I would just go get the edging that you spike into place. You will have to remove that outer course of pavera on both sides.

I am surprised that they did not have you run and get some, for doing this for you.

Why would he have needed to remove the outer course of pavers in any case?
In order to put the proper edging down that gets spiked, you have to take out those two outer courses, so that you can put the edging down and put it in place. The bottom edge of the "L", which makes the edging, goes under the bricks, below the fill.

Even if they go with a cement edging, they still have to pull the two outer courses to set them back into the cement to allow them not to move. The only issue with cement for edging is that it starts cracking after one Winter, because there really is not much to it, so the other option, which is better, is to use the standard edging. Steel edging can go against those paver's, but is a PITA to get it to properly curve.

So, you would remove pavers, to install paver edging that doesn't go under the pavers, but should be installed, and staked, alongside the pavers?
Sorry, I don't get it....
There are two forms of that edging. One that you spike on the outside, the other has an edge that goes under the outer course of paver's. It just depends on which type is available locally.

The stuff you spike on the outside, is easier, but you still have to remove the sod away from the pavers, so it is just easier to remove the outer course, so that you can get the height of it set properly.

This is not rocket science. So I really do not see why you want to turn this into an argument, other then it is a Saturday and you have nothing else to do.

Use a pick-mattock and trench the width of the maddock on the edges to about 2" below the bottom of the pavers. Use bagged concrete mix and make a wedge from about 1/3" from the top of the pavers sloping away to below finish grade. Backfill, and the grass will grow to the edge giving you a hidden edging. Put fiber in the concrete mix if you are paranoid.

Done hundreds of feet of it and it doesn't move unless you want it to, in which case it is easy to remove.

FYI, if you remove one or two courses, set paver edging, and attempt to replace the pavers, you will fail. To use that product, you set it first, then cut the pavers to fit, period.
