I have 2 ceiling fans (motor only, no light) that appear to be hooked up in series to one switch/controller. I replaced both fans and when I powered to test, the switch seems to now be connected to lights that are on other switches in 3 gang box. Fan switch was inconsistent and did not turn on at first, then turned on fans, then when tried switch again the fans and can lights (on other switches) came on. Is there a way for me to troubleshoot this problem? Didnt touch switch, just replaced fans. Fan at end of series has 12-2, 3-wire so black, white, ground only, the fan in middle has the 12-2 from other fan, and also a 12-3, but the red wire wasn't stripped and dont think was connected to anything. I have 2 other switches in gang box that control can lights in room, but should operate independently. Not real savvy at electrical, but figured was just replacing fans. Thanks,

When doing repeated switch off-on action, does the mode of operation toggle through different modes, repeating in a circular stepping mode?

That may be a feature and not a flaw. Check the specification sheet.

ok, got them to both work, but realize that the controller may be/may have been the problem. I tried 3 different controllers and 2 of them only work on 1 speed, the 3rd switch works on 2 speeds, low which hardly spins and high, not the 2 middle speeds.

Thanks all, any ideas on getting the fan speeds to work? The wall controller that came with the fans, switches to high speed first, and that works, then when you go past high can see flash/spark inside switch and other speeds dont work, just off (4 speed controller) I bought another 4 speed controller rated for 2 amps, each fan on high uses about .8 amps. On that one i get nothing on 1 and 2, on 3 it barely turns (slower than low) and on 4 seems to run fine on high. Wondering if any way to get somewhere in the middle as its almost off or full throttle at the moment.
