We just bought a new ceiling fan from Hunter (27303 model) with remote control. We have tried everything to hook this fan up and it still isn't working. The ceiling outlet box has two black wires, one green, two white and one red. The ceiling fan has two white, two black, one green and one black/white wire. The receiver for the remote has one black/white, one green one red, and one white.

The red wire and the two black wires were attached to the two black wires the two whites were each attached to two whites wires. When setting the fan up there is an extra white, black and red. There is only one switch which controlled the light fixture that was once in this spot (no dimmer).

When hooked up as per instructions, there is one white, one black and one red wire left over. Which we capped. But the fan still doesn't work.

Wait for one of the electrical gurus to verify, but it sounds as if the black and white wires in that box are in the "middle" of a circuit. They come into that box and then go out in the other direction to another outlet/fixture. If you don't hookup all the wires, you have made part of your circuit dead. If you capped off the line supplying the box itself, you'll get no power. Were any of those wires covered in tape of any sort of any color?

Without seeing what you actually have, it sounds like it should be:

Red wire is from your switch - goes to the lights.
Black wires go together and to the fan power wire.
All white wires together
All bare/green wires together.

I can't tell you which wires are what on that Hunter fan though, you'll need to reference the directions.

The power wires in the ceiling box go to the power wires on the transmitter. The other wires on the transmitter go to the various wires of the ceiling fan as per the instructions. Read and understand the instructions included with the fan and or remote before proceedinng.

We read all the instructions and followed them verbatim. I think hyunelan2 has something with the "middle circuit" because now a fixture in another room is not working at all. And I misunderstood my husband when he relayed some information to me. The two black in the ceiling weren't attached to anything at all and were capped off. The red wire was attached to the two black wires in the light fixture. None of the wires in the ceiling were taped in anyway.

Find thte wire that feeds from the switch to the fan, most likely that is the red.
At the fan fan box all blacks and whites go together.
Fan Wiring
Lay the remote receiver on a flat surface with the wires facing you. Identify the five wires from the remote receiver. The red wire to the far left attaches to the light kit wire, the black wire to the right of the red wire attaches to the motor wire, the white wire to the right of the motor wire connects to the white wire from the fan motor. The next two wires, black and white, connect to the house wiring.

I know what you meant, but you stated it in a confusing way. The way you stated it sounded like you should bind all the blacks and whites together into one big bundle. this would be bad! :^)

What you meant was:

All the blacks go together.
and
All the whites go together.

Going back to what wires are coming out of the light fixture, you should have 2 cables coming into that fixture. You said there was only one green wire, was there a bare wire as well in there?

So, tell us what the two cables have in the way of wiring, let us know what each one of them has, not the total, but seperatly.

Also, any pictures you can post will make it easier for us to help.
