Ceiling Fan with 3 switches

Without knowing where the wires go I would GUESS that the black wire goes onthe common screw.

Sounds like you need a 3 way switch. Your two reds will attach to the two copper screws on the switch. The black will attach to the common screw. Most of the time the common screw is black but not always. It will be a different color than the other two screws

dSilanskas I think you are on the right track. However, my switch has 1 blue screw, 1 black screw, and 1 copper screw. It's a dimmer switch. I assume the black screw is common, so is it ok to connect the 2 red wires to the copper and blue screws?

Can you take a picture of the switch or does it have a name on it??

I am thinking that the blue screw is a green screw.

DO NOT do anything yet.

Make sure you have a 3 way dimmer. The black will most likely be the "common". The reds wil go on the othet two terminals in any order.

BTW, I misread your name as "penisluv". Ya might want to address that...... Or maybe it's my issue

It's one of those Lutron Maestro dimmers. I connected all switches like you suggested. One box (2 red, 2 black, 1 green) to a 4way accessory dimmer switch, one box (2 red, 1 black, 1 green)which also contains the wiring for the separate fan control switch to a 3way main dimmer switch, and the last box (1 red, 2 black, 1 green) to a 3way accessory dimmer switch. All 3 switches to turn on the fan light works now yet I get a humming sound from the light at low dimming.

Penisluv?!? Let's just say that I don't live in San Francisco or Atlanta...nor would I want to!

Take the other switches out of the wall and you will see one of the others are the same as that and wire it the same way

dSilaskas, if box#1 has 2 red/2 blk, box#2 has 2 red/1 blk, and box#3 has 1 red/2blk, it's not possible to set up the same way as any other switch...:huh:

Maybe it happens in San Fran, but I live close to Atlanta.
And the answer is NO, before anyone gets carried away.

The lights are humming, because they don't know the words,:whistling2:

Sometime you need to change the bulbs. Cheaper bulbs will hum when dimmed, but so will some of the better ones out there also.
