Hi There.
I have installed a new ceiling fan with light into a room. I have wired the black/blue from the fan/light with the black in the box and the white to the white. The ceiling fan and light works perfectly with the pull cords but not with the wall switch. At the very least, I'd like the light to be controlled by the light switch.

Also in the junction box were a bundle of white wires (3) and a bundle of 2 black and 1 white wires. I didn't un-bundle these.

Our house was built in the 1950s.

thanks in advance.

You can operate the light with the switch and the fan with the pull chain if you follow these instructions.

A) Fan white to the bundle of white wires

B) Fan blue(light) to the single black.

C) Fan black to the bundle of 2 black and 1 white wires.

Turn off and test power bacause the bundle of 2 black and 1 white wires is HOT.

Make sure all connections are tight.

Light will operate via switch, fan will work via pull chain whether the switch is on or off.

Did the old light work via the switch?

If so, it will operate the new light.

Since you don't have a voltage tester, remove the fan and hook the old fixture up (like it was....white to white, black to the single black) and let it dangle. See if the switch operates the light.

If that works, the configuration I posted WILL work. The blue wire on the fan goes straight too the light kit.

The black wire on the fan goes straight to the motor (thru the speed selector switch)

The white is shared by both fan and light.

Again, light gets power thru the blue, fan gets power thru the black.

In the jbox, the single black sends poer (via the switch) to the light and the bundle of blacks with a white sends power to the fan.

If that doesn't work, operator error. Part of the story is missing.
