This is a new house with a new electrical box for a fan. The box has a blue wire, red wire and two white wires tired together.

There is one wall switch to control the fan/light.

The fan instructions say to connect fan black to box black (which I don't have so I used blue), fan blue to box black or red (I have red), and says to connect fan green to ground (the box has no green so i used one of the whites) and fan white to white. I used both white wires in the box but I disconnected them from each other first.

It clearly isn't right because nothing works and there is a short when I try to use any other light on the same breaker it flips the breaker.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Connect the green wire to the box not the white. Connect the fan black to the blue, connect the fan blue to the red. Connect the fan white to the other 2 whites.
