I have been trying to figure this out for a while, i put in a new ceiling fan and it works fine but there is a catch I have a porch light now the does not come on without the ceiling fan on and the same for some of the receptacles??

http://ouareau.com/bruce/light.jpg

so if this images works you will see (2) 2 way wires and (1) 3 way wire coming into the fan.

the fan has
black - Black - fan
red - Black - light
white - common
ground

the switch is has 2 sliders one for the fan and the light

black to black
black to red
red to yellow
and then the ground and common white

and then 2 way wire goes out to the the there light switch at the patio

have i cross a wire or is there a way to test the switch?

I tried that but then the light stays on and i can't true it off. unless i wire it wrong, i took 1 black wire coming from the fan to the switch box and connected it to the other black going out to the porch switch.
found the power source it was coming from a plug into the fan switch. hear are some images i hope you can figure it out with me.

You are correct everything did work fine before there was a light fixture there before with an older style switch and wanted to change the switch so i could control the fan an the light independently.

OK that makes scene i have 3 other (2 wire) coming into the the fan in the ceiling. I will test them each to try and come up with there origin. and then figure out where to power it from.

thanks
want to thank everyone for there Help I ran a new power source cable to the other switch and removed the feed from the ceiling fan and everything works great

thanks again
