Ok here's my issue...

I replaced a ceiling fan in my bedroom. The new ceiling fan has black, white and green wires. Easy enough. However the junction box has black, white, red, and a ground wire.

Connecting Black/black, white/white, green/ground gives the fan full functionality. My question is, what do I do with the red wire? Can I just cap it off and tuck it in with the rest? Is that safe?

On the old fan the red wire was paired with the blue wire on the fan so I'm assuming red is hot.

Thanks!

The red wire is for the light kit should you decide to install one on your fan. Just cap off the red until you install a light on the fan. Then you can control the fan and light separately.
The blue (light) in your old fan could have been connected to the red.

Thanks! The fan actually already has a light and it works with the current setup.

I think what JV is saying is that the red is probably a switch leg for the light kit. This allows you to turn on the fan and the light seprerately from the wall switch. The way you have it will work, but if you have a wall switch (not just pull chain) control, you could do it red wire to blue fan wire and black wire to black fan wire.

Right on Brother. What local?
I don't like using pull chains. I always use 3 wire cables to ceiling boxes.
