I'm replacing a failed Hunter ceiling fan with another fan that was given to me. The Hunter had a 3/4" down rod with a threaded end which went into a threaded female fitting on the fan. My new fan has a 1/2" threaded male stud coming out of the top of the fan. Unfortunately, the new fan has no brand name or model number on it. Does anybody know of a 3/4" to 1/2" threaded female adapter that would enable me to connect the two?

1/2 by 3/4 " plumbing coupling should work. I would drill thru each end and install a cotter pin.

Any "down-rods" I have ever installed had a "ball and socket" assembly. The socket mounted to the box and the ball mounted to the end of the rod and simply hung in the socket so that it could freely move about (within limits of course).

I took it that the OP was adapting the existing 3/4" downrod to a new fan that was set up for an older fan that had a 1/2" downrod stud on top of the fan. The ball and socket at the ceiling bos is the existing setup from the old Hunter fan.

Maybe Hunter was all I ever came in contact with. I haven't touched a ceiling fan (other than to turn mine on and off) in years.

I also remember the name Casablanca. Was that a Hunter fan maybe?

Lowes sells a downrod adapter that goes from a 1/2" fan fitting to a 3/4" downrod. Comes with all the expected set screws and pins for safety.
