I'm putting in one of those ceiling fan switches that lets you control the light and fan speed seperately, and it also has a remote. I'm trying to put in the switch now, but I'm confused.

On the new switch, there are 2 black wires and one green wire. On the old switch, there are three black wires; two going into the switch itself and one curved under a screw on the side. Also the copper wire curved under a screw on the side.

How do I connect it when there is one more black on the old unit than the new? There are no screws on the new unit to attach any wires to, only the 3 wires coming out of the unit itself.

I have pictures if it would help, just not sure how to post them here...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Amanda its very simple. Okay on the old switch its like you said you have two wires poking into the back of the switch and you have one hooked around the cooper screw. Now the one that is poked into the back of the switch right next to the one that is hooked you removed those wires and splice them together. Now wirenut one of the leads from the new switch to the two wires you just spliced together. Now you will have one more wire poking out of the back of the old switch. Remove that wire and wirenut it with the other lead to the new switch. And of course bare copper wire wirenuts to the green wire of the new switch:thumbsup:

Awesome! Thanks! It's in and working now. The fan cover isn't totally on because I think it's not big enough to cover the receiver, but I'll take it. Thank you!

Most receivers are able to fit into the canopy cover, albeit might be snug.

Make sure you have oriented that receiver properly with the beveled edge facing down, and it should fit in there, as long as you tucked in all those wires neatly. :whistling2:

So that's the problem... I'll tackle that later tonight. Frustrated myself enough for now. I'll let you know if it works. Thanks for the info.
