I have power going to the ceiling fan and when I turn the switch off, there is no power. So the motor is getting power but does not come on, my mom was looking online and thinks it might be the capacitor on the side of the motor. I pulled it and its an aerovox 15uf 330v 60hz 70c.
I cannot find a replacement online or at lowes or ace hardware. I dont even think those stores carry capacitors.
Can anyone help me find a replacement so I dont have to go buy a new fan motor for nothing.??

Don't just start replacing parts and don't assume anything.

1. Make sure the reversing switch it not stuck in the middle. Make sure the fan speed switch isn't in the ioff position.

2. Test for voltage at the fan ceiling j box. You should have appx 120 volts hot to neutral (black to white).

3. If you hvae proper voltage, you need to follow it and test it. The power goes into the fan speed pull switch and out 3 times to hi, med and low. Follow the circuit and find the bad component (if possible).

Remember that electricity can and will kill you. It is sitting in the wires, silently stalking you just waiting for a chance to strike.

I just realized- Its a house exhaust fan, not a ceiling fan...sorry for confusion, and I just found out that the house fan came from Sears, and they discontinued the capacitor I need...doh, thats why I couldnt find it.

Find a motor shop and you will be able to find a cap to match what you need.

I agree with the poster regarding a motor shop. They have the caps and can match it up to your motor. However, you don't know if it's the cap. Take the motor out and take it in.
Where are you. I can hook you up with an EASA shop near you.

Um..it would be much easier to spend 10 dollars on a new cap than tear the motor down. If that doesnt fix it then it will have to come down.
