For the life of me I can't figure out how to line up something. Not sure a carpenter's level does this, but pushing me in the right direction would be great.

Basically, what I'm doing is hanging a 4ft florescent light in the garage. I'm trying to make sure the light will be straight and not crooked. How do I "level" something like this to make sure it is centered to something. For example, I'm going to drill holes to the left and to the right of a junction box to mount the light fixture, however, how would I be able to "center" the holes to the junction box, so that I get a straight-mounted light fixture?

Any help is appreciated.
